Britain’s racer Jolyon Palmer could be crowned GP2 Champion in Russia

The DAMS driver Jolyon Palmer scored 41 points in front of Felipe Nasr and 67 points clear of Stoffel Vandoorne with just two rungs of the championship remaining.

A driver can score an utmost of 48 points from a GP2 weekend, Palmer has finished in the points in every race in the current year, needs to score just eight points more than Nasr in Sochi to be further than the reach of the Brazilian.

McLaren protégé Vandoorne’s slim title hopes will also be terminated if the Belgian fails to score 29 points more than Palmer.

“I’m looking ahead to my first trip to Russia and driving a novel track in Sochi,” said by Palmer.

“The path will be new for everyone so getting up to speed will be important in the free practice session. At the moment I don’t know what to expect and then I’m looking forward to going out there to get out!”
